Sister of stage actress Grace Lloyd and 'Alice Lloyd' (qv)., Although a big star, she joined the pickets in the music hall strike of 1907. When a third-rate singer tried to cross the picket line, Lloyd said "let her through girls, she'll close the music hall faster than we can". The singer was Belle Elmore, later murdered by her husband, Dr Crippen., Married Bernard Dillon in Fenruary 1914 in the British Consulate, Portland, Oregon. She and Dillon had been denied access to the US a few months earlier because of "lewd and lascivious conduct" - they lived together. (She had only separated from her 2nd husband in 1910, they never divorced), Mother of 'Marie Lloyd (II)' (qv), usually billed as Marie Lloyd Jr. (1888-1967).
